When you first discover you have hemorrhoids everyone tells you constipation is your real problem. You focus on preventing constipation. You add fiber to your diet – lots of fiber – believing your hemorrhoids will soon disappear. And they don’t. So is there more to hemorrhoids?
Having an inactive lifestyle, standing for long periods of time, pregnancy and heavy lifting are some common hemorrhoid causes. And it seems that inactivity, and then straining is the common thread here, when in fact there is another underlying problem – weak vein walls. These weak vein walls collapse under pressure, in this case straining, until they become inflamed.
So you get constipation from a sluggish, unhealthy digestive system that causes straining and rectal bleeding. You may add fiber or digestive enzymes to your diet for your constipation but if your vein walls are strong enough to take the straining your would not get hemorrhoids.
Which brings us to magnesium. Whoa! What has magnesium got to do with this?
Magnesium softens your stools, relaxes your muscles – in this case around the rectum area – and feeds muscles when you exercise. It promotes circulation and strengthens muscles and vein walls. Magnesium is an important mineral. But if you lack magnesium – and most people do – you get stress, muscle cramps and digestive problems like constipation which lead to hemorrhoids.
While food provides the main source of magnesium, our food supply lacks it due to current farming practices and over processed foods. It is no wonder most hemorrhoid sufferers are from western countries.
Magnesium can be found in green leafy veggies, nuts, olives, almonds parsley, potatoes, tomatoes, rye bread and pumpkin. But broiling, steaming and boiling can remove magnesium from these foods. Eating organic produce and eating these foods raw are a better good option for getting magnesium from foods.
Or you can take magnesium in a capsule or powder.
So when looking at what is causing your hemorrhoids go beyond constipation and instead look to strengthen your weak veins and vein walls, your sluggish digestive tract and improve your diet. Add magnesium to your diet with good quality foods containing magnesium or with a capsule or powder. By strengthening your body you can heal yourself of hemorrhoids and their causes.
